⏵ character information
name: Yelena Belova
canon: MCU
age: 35
canon point: Post-Hawkeye
history: Character wiki
abilities:
personality: Yelena has been shaped by the trauma of being taken away from the only family she ever knew and the harsh environment of the Red Room. Growing up under Dreykov's strict control of his Widows, she developed a cynical outlook on life, viewing the world through a lens colored by both skepticism and distrust. This upbringing also instilled in her a sarcastic and deadpan sense of humor, which she uses as a coping mechanism to deflect the pain and trauma of her past.
Despite an outwardly tough demeanor, Yelena is often directed by her emotions, leading to occasionally impulsive decisions and outbursts of anger, most easily seen in her confrontation with her family at the dinner table. She feels betrayed by her parents and sister for not coming for her, and realizing that the family she always thought of as her own was fake was particularly upsetting to her.
While Yelena does possess a moral compass, it is a bit bent and she often blurs the lines between right and wrong. Engaging in morally ambiguous actions for what she perceives as noble causes or self-preservation is something of a default setting for her, but she also holds onto a strong sense of justice and a desire to right the wrongs perpetrated by the Red Room. This leads to her efforts to free the other Widows from their brainwashing.
Despite these flaws, Yelena's unwavering determination is an undeniable strength. When she sets her mind on a goal, she pursues it relentlessly, often to the exclusion of other considerations. This single-minded focus is seen most clearly in her pursuit of Clint Barton, where her resolve to avenge Natasha momentarily blinds her to alternative perspectives and the potential consequences of her actions.
